For the past few years, Espadrilles have been deemed the hot new shoe trend come spring and summer. Every major fashion designer seems to have a version of the classic shoe now, with fast fashion companies following with their slapdash offerings.
When I wear my striped Espadrilles, older women tell me I remind them of their youth. Younger women demand to know where they can buy their own pair. I respond, in my most unsmug manner possible (an impossibility), that I’d bought them from a little shop in the South of France. They were handmade in France and the label is a family-run company.
I got my pair last year, and I remember wearing them almost every day. The wedge is not too high so I can walk around in them for hours. They’re slip on, so I don’t even have to tie them—perfect for the lazy girl about town. They’re versatile, so great with jeans, dresses and shorts.
Spring is here again, so I plan to live in them in the coming months. For the amount of wear they’ve seen, the stitching has not budged. Only one of the rubber soles have a small nick in the heel. I hope they continue to stay intact for years to come because Espadrilles will never go out of style.
