The Very Cool Hat

by James Jewell

She opened her eyes.
The projectors turned on and she saw him.
In high definition across the street.
She wanted his attention,
but pretended not to look.
Not as a trick.
She didn’t want to use trickery.
At least not any trickery
other than the very cool hat that she’d bought last week.
