Where Canadians Can Buy Ethical and Sustainable Fashion Online

Most of the time, I buy my ethical/sustainable clothes on my travels. The US is particularly good for that. But this year, I’ve been more into vintage and shopping local (here’s the guide on where to find ethical fashion in Toronto). I avoid shopping online at non-Canadian sites because the duty and custom fees can be ridiculously high.

To spare you fellow Canucks the pain of spending more than the poor loonie can stretch, I’ve compiled a list of some fantastic Canadian brands and retailers. You can now shop online without fretting over how much the postman’s going to slap you with. I’m sure there are more brands out there, and if I missed anyone, please drop a note in the comments.

Recently, I was complaining to other ethical bloggers about how popular sustainable fashion brands tend to make their clothes from dry clean-only materials such as silk and viscose. After researching for this post, I’m happy to learn that many Canadian designers are focused on using natural fibres such as linen and organic cotton—machine washable! I also see a pattern in terms of design: feminine, comfortable, minimalist, reflective of our unfussy elegance.
